Student organizations are a great way to meet other students with similar interests. Most organizations offer student members benefits such as community service opportunities, clinical shadowing experiences, conference and internship opporutnities. Graduate schools are becoming more and more competitive so participating in a student organization helps you stand out from the crowd!
The American Medical Student Association is organized by students who plan to become health professionals and improve the quality of healthcare. In order to do this, AMSA is focused on familiarizing students with healthcare issues and is involved in community service and activities that help students on their pre-med track (CPR, EKG, suturing workshops, physician shadowing, among others).
The UPR Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability (CRES), funded by grants from the US Department of Defense (DoD) and the US Department of Education (USDE), supports highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research in the area of algae-based biofuels and represents a major new tool for teaching students in the College of Natural Sciences about core concepts and principles in the field of renewable energy and sustainability.
The SEA was founded in 1993 by various students studying at the University of Puerto Rico RÃo Piedras Campus. The mission of this organization is to promote environmental conservation by creating a responsible conscience and promoting sustainability in our university communities and the rest of Puerto Rico. Some of our activities include workshops, seminars, research, field trips, , and our annual gala: Bohemia Ambiental.

The UPR Medlife chapter links UPR students to the Medlife organization. Medlife helps families break free from the health-constraints of poverty by improving their access to Medicine,. Medlife aids in education and community development because access to quality healthcare is a human right. The UPRRP Medlife Chapter raises funds to bring health provisions to communities in Peru, Panama, and Ecuador. They recruit students to assist in clinics at these countries to bring quality healthcare to low-income families everywhere.
The ASBMB Rio Piedras chapter is dedicated to enhance the advancement of undergraduate research promoting research-based undergraduate education by means of scientific education through outreach.Members have the benefit to participate of different activities and opportunities like: seminars, conferences research opportunities, outreach activities, community service activities, career resources and professional development opportunities, travel awards to attend the ASBMB Annual Meeting, Undergraduate Scholarships & Free online subscriptions to: ASBMB Today, Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), Molecular & Cellular Proteomics (MCP), Journals of Lipid Research (JLR).
AIESEC is the world’s largest student organization with about 45,000 members and it is run entirely by youth. The organization, which is present in over 111 countries and territories, offers young students the opportunity to develop leadership skills across the different platforms that AIESEC offers. Among these we find internships and international projects, conferences and congresses where young people work in various social and human topics that relevant in today’s society.
The Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society is for graduate and undergraduate students. This organization is dedicated to improving, understanding, and appreciating biological studies. It believes in extending the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Tri-Beta offers academic counseling, workshops, conferences, seminars and field trips. Annual conventions are held in Puerto Rico and in the United States so that its members are able to present their research, stay up to date with new scientific discoveries, and fraternize. There are currently over 670 chapters in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
SEAF's mission is to promote the integration of perspectives from the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences during undergraduate studies. The organization also provides information on internships, graduate school and the opportunities in the labor discipline and academic field. In addition, activities of fraternization carried out during the semester, particularly among students of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, who have much to offer and learn from each other.
